Update the Passphrase and CCC to Enroll (and Avoid the Need to Submit Form ID)
Can’t find the filer’s passphrase and/or CIK confirmation code (CCC) that it needs to enroll in EDGAR Next? Unsure if the filer’s passphrase and CCC are current so it can enroll? (Passphrases and CCCs created prior to September 2019 are not considered current and cannot be used to enroll.)
Follow this guidance to ensure that the filer has a current passphrase and CCC so that the filer can take advantage of the straightforward EDGAR Next enrollment process and avoid the additional work required to submit Form ID!
- Filers whose Form ID applications for EDGAR access were granted on or after March 24, 2025 are subject to the requirements of EDGAR Next, and these filers do not need to enroll.
Important: The filer or its filing agent must have access to the filer’s EDGAR point of contact (EDGAR POC) email address to obtain a code to update the passphrase and CCC.
- Take the time to check whether the filer or its filing agent has the current passphrase and CCC or can access the filer’s EDGAR POC email. If not, the filer will not be able to enroll and may need to submit Form ID to reapply for access to its account.
- If the filer is unable to access its EDGAR account after following this guidance, contact Filer Support at (202) 551-8900, option #3 for assistance.
- If the filer must submit Form ID to reapply for access to its EDGAR account, see How Do I Prepare and Submit My Form ID Application for instructions regarding applying for access to an existing EDGAR account and for current average Form ID processing times.
If you are certain that the filer’s CCC and passphrase are current, you can enroll the filer in EDGAR Next by following the guidance in How Do I Enroll in EDGAR Next.
Before you begin:
- Coordinate with all those who need access to the filer’s EDGAR account before you change any EDGAR information or enroll. If you do not coordinate, the filer may not be able to make filings!
- Make sure that you have the correct CIK for the filer. If you are not certain, look up the CIK.
Obtain a New or Confirm the Current Passphrase
A filer or its filing agent, with the filer’s authorization, may obtain a new or confirm the current passphrase for the filer by following these steps:
- Log into the EDGAR Filer Management website using your Login.gov individual account credentials.
- If you do not have Login.gov individual account credentials for EDGAR, consult How Do I Obtain Login.gov Individual Account Credentials and our instructional video Obtaining individual account credentials on the SEC’s YouTube channel.
- Select Enroll in EDGAR Next.
- Select Passphrase Reset, and then select Request a passphrase reset token.
- Enter the CIK of the EDGAR account that requires a new passphrase and a reason for the update (e.g., forgot my passphrase), and select Request Token.
- Within a few minutes, you should receive an email containing a security token at the EDGAR POC email address on file for the CIK you entered.
- Return to the EDGAR Filer Management website, select Enroll in EDGAR Next, then Passphrase Reset, and then Reset Passphrase.
- Enter the CIK, security token, and desired passphrase.
- The passphrase must be exactly eight (8) characters, consisting of at least one letter, one number (0-9), and only one of the four following special characters: @,#,$,*. Letters are case-sensitive (upper or lower case).
- You may input your current passphrase—this will update your passphrase to make it current without changing it.
- Type the passphrase again to confirm, and then select Reset Passphrase.
- EDGAR will return a success message to confirm that your passphrase has been updated.
- Make sure to save the confirmed/new passphrase you entered in a secure location. The filer will need the passphrase to enroll in EDGAR Next.
Obtain a New or Confirm the Current CCC
A filer or its filing agent, with the filer’s authorization, can confirm the filer’s current CCC or obtain a new CCC for the filer through the EDGAR Filer Management website. If you are obtaining a new CCC or changing the filer’s CCC, remember to coordinate with all those who need access to the filer’s EDGAR account to avoid any interruption in the filer’s ability to file.
- Log into the EDGAR Filer Management website with Login.gov individual account credentials.
- If you do not have Login.gov individual account credentials for EDGAR, consult How Do I Obtain Login.gov Individual Account Credentials and our instructional video Obtaining individual account credentials on the SEC’s YouTube channel.
- After you log into EDGAR Filer Management, at the bottom of the page, select Request a CCC reset token.
- Enter the filer’s CIK and the reason for the request, then select Request Token.
- EDGAR will send an email in a few minutes containing a security token to the EDGAR POC email address on file for the CIK.
- Once you receive the security token, navigate to the bottom of the same page in EDGAR Filer Management and select Reset CCC.
- Enter the CIK, the token from the email sent to the EDGAR POC, and the filer’s new CCC (or enter the filer’s existing CCC to confirm that it is current).
- The CCC is exactly eight (8) characters, consisting of at least one number (0-9) and at least one special character (such as @, #, $, *, etc.). Letters are case-sensitive (upper or lower case).
- Make sure to save the CCC in a secure location. The filer will need the CCC to enroll in EDGAR Next and to make filings.
