Artificial Intelligence at the SEC

The SEC is enhancing innovation and efficiency in its agency operations through the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI). The SEC’s divisions and offices are building enterprise capacity for AI innovation and implementing AI solutions that are mission enhancing.

SEC's AI Task Force

Recognizing the transformative potential of AI, the SEC’s AI Task Force was created in August 2025 and is accelerating AI integration to bolster the SEC’s mission.

Among the task force's duties:

  • Centralizing the agency’s efforts and enabling internal cross-agency and cross-disciplinary collaboration to navigate the AI lifecycle
  • Removing barriers to progress
  • Focusing on AI applications that maximize benefits
  • Maintaining governance

SEC Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer

To support the responsible use of AI at the SEC, a senior leader has been designated to serve as the agency’s Chief AI Officer (CAIO).

As CAIO, Valerie Szczepanik is leading the SEC's effort to tap AI for increased innovation and efficiency across the agency.

The CAIO, in coordination with appropriate agency officials, is responsible for promoting AI innovation, adoption, and governance. The CAIO also is responsible for implementing applicable AI guidance issued by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
