Manage the CIK Confirmation Code (CCC)
The CIK confirmation code (CCC) is a code that each filer needs to enroll in EDGAR Next, make filings, and retrieve and edit the filer’s information on EDGAR. It is visible on the dashboard of the EDGAR Filer Management website to the filer’s account administrators, users, delegated administrators and delegated users.
- EDGAR continues to require presentation of the CCC to file after the compliance date for EDGAR Next.
- The CCC is exactly eight (8) characters, consisting of at least one number (0-9) and at least one special character (such as @, #, $, *, etc.). Letters are case-sensitive (upper or lower case).
- The CCC will automatically reset upon enrollment; the new CCC will display on the EDGAR Filer Management dashboard and may be customized thereafter by an account administrator.
- Changing the CCC periodically enhances the security of the EDGAR account. SEC staff recommends that filers change their CCC immediately if they suspect that it may have been compromised, and periodically as a routine security practice.
This guidance instructs unenrolled filers how to:
- Generate a new CCC to enroll in EDGAR Next
- Reconfirm an existing CCC to ensure it is current for enrollment
- A filer must present a current CCC to enroll in EDGAR Next. CCCs created prior to September 2019 are not considered current and cannot be used to enroll.
This guidance also instructs enrolled filers and filers whose Form ID was granted on or after March 24, 2025 how to:
- View the CCC
- Change the CCC
Before you begin: Coordinate with all those who need access to the filer’s EDGAR account before changing the CCC. If you do not, the filer may not be able to make filings! See How Do I Enroll in EDGAR Next for more information about coordinating with those who need access to the filer’s EDGAR account.

Unenrolled Filers
Unenrolled filers are not able to file on EDGAR until they are enrolled in EDGAR Next. To ensure that an unenrolled filer has a current CCC so that it may enroll, the filer may generate a new CCC to replace a lost or forgotten CCC, or reconfirm its existing CCC on the EDGAR Filer Management website.
What is needed to generate a new CCC or reconfirm an existing CCC:
- To generate a new CCC or reconfirm a filer’s existing CCC, the individual representing the filer must have Login.gov individual account credentials for EDGAR and be able to access the filer’s EDGAR POC email address.
- If an unenrolled filer does not have a CCC and cannot access the EDGAR POC email, check to see if the filer’s filing agent has the filer’s CCC or can access the EDGAR POC email.
- If neither the unenrolled filer nor its filing agent has the filer’s CCC or access to the EDGAR POC email, then the filer must submit Form ID to regain access to its EDGAR account. For guidance, see How Do I Prepare and Submit My Form ID Application for EDGAR Access.
A filer may generate a new CCC or reconfirm its existing CCC on the EDGAR Filer Management website by following these instructions:
- Log into the dashboard of the EDGAR Filer Management website with Login.gov individual account credentials.
- If you do not have Login.gov individual account credentials for EDGAR, follow these instructions to obtain them.
- At the bottom of the page, select Request a CCC reset token.
- Input the filer’s Central Index Key (CIK) (a unique, publicly available number that EDGAR assigns to identify each filer account) and the reason for the request (for example, forgot CCC or reconfirming CCC) and select Request Token.
- Within a few minutes, an email containing a security token will be sent to the EDGAR POC email address on file for the filer.
- If you did not receive an email, see above regarding What is needed to generate a new CCC or reconfirm an existing CCC.
- Once you receive the security token, select Reset CCC at the bottom of the page.
- Enter the CIK, the token from the email sent to the EDGAR POC, and the filer’s new CCC—or the filer’s existing CCC if you wish to reconfirm the existing codes.
- Make sure to save the CCC in a secure location. The filer will need the CCC (as well as the passphrase) to enroll in EDGAR Next. Enrollment ends December 19, 2025.
Note: Unenrolled filers that have forgotten their passphrase—required for enrollment —should follow the instructions in How Do I Update EDGAR Passphrase and CCC to Enroll (and Avoid the Need to Submit Form ID).

An account administrator for a filer that has enrolled in EDGAR Next or whose Form ID was granted on or after March 24, 2025 can generate a new CCC or create a custom CCC on the dashboard.
- Log into the EDGAR Filer Management website with Login.gov individual account credentials.
- Select My Accounts.
- Select the Filer name associated with the CIK.
- Select Manage CCC.
- You may now either change the CCC by generating a new CCC or creating a custom CCC:
- Select Generate CCC—EDGAR will generate a new CCC for the filer, or
- Enter a new custom CCC of your choice in the first box above Create Custom CCC and re-enter it in the second box to confirm, then select Create Custom CCC.
The CCC will remain visible on the dashboard of the EDGAR Filer Management website for individuals with permission to make filings for that filer/CIK.
