Manage the CIK Confirmation Code (CCC)
Jump to sections:
The CIK confirmation code (CCC) is a code that each filer needs to make filings on EDGAR and to retrieve and edit the filer’s information on EDGAR. EDGAR will continue to require presentation of the CCC to file after the September 15, 2025 compliance date for EDGAR Next.
The CCC consists of eight characters, including at least one number (0-9) and at least one special character (@, #, $, *), and is case-sensitive.
Changing the CCC periodically enhances the security of the EDGAR account. SEC staff recommends that filers change their CCC immediately if they suspect that it may have been compromised, and periodically as a routine security practice.
To enroll in EDGAR Next, a filer must present a current CCC. CCCs created prior to September 2019 are not considered current and cannot be used to enroll. Filers should enroll in EDGAR Next prior to September 15, 2025 to avoid interruption in the ability to file. Enrollment closes on December 19, 2025.
This guidance will show unenrolled filers how to:
- Generate a new CCC and password (to file until September 15, 2025 or to enroll)
- Reconfirm an existing CCC and password to ensure the CCC is current for enrollment
And will show enrolled filers and filers whose Form ID was granted on or after March 24, 2025 how to:
- View the CCC
- Change the CCC
Before you begin:
Coordinate with all those who need access to the filer’s EDGAR account before changing the CCC. If you do not, the filer may not be able to make filings! See How Do I Enroll in EDGAR Next for more information about coordinating with those who need access to the filer’s EDGAR account.
Unenrolled Filers
An unenrolled filer whose CCC was generated prior to March 24, 2025 may either use:
- The legacy process to change the CCC on the EDGAR Filing and EDGAR Online Forms websites (until December 19, 2025), or
- The new process to generate a CCC and password or reconfirm its existing CCC and password on the EDGAR Filer Management website, after logging in with Login.gov individual account credentials. (The filer does not need to be enrolled to use this process.)
Instructions for both methods are set forth in this guidance.
- Legacy Method to Change the CCC (available until December 19, 2025)
To use the legacy method to change the CCC, on either the EDGAR Filing or EDGAR Online Forms websites, follow these instructions:- Enter CIK and password
- Select Retrieve/Edit Data.
- Enter CIK and CCC numbers.
- Select Change CCC.
- Enter CIK number.
- Enter password.
- Enter new CCC.
- Confirm new CCC.
- Select Change CCC.
This method will remain available until December 19, 2025.
- New Process for Generating a CCC and Password or Reconfirming Existing CCC and Password
An unenrolled filer may generate a new CCC and password (EDGAR generates both codes at the same time) or reconfirm its existing CCC and password on the EDGAR Filer Management website. To do so, the individual representing the filer must have Login.gov individual account credentials for EDGAR and be able to access the filer’s EDGAR point of contact (POC) email address. (See the instructions below if you cannot access the filer’s EDGAR POC email.)- Log into the dashboard of the EDGAR Filer Management website with Login.gov individual account credentials.
- If you do not have Login.gov individual account credentials for EDGAR, follow these instructions to obtain them.
- At the bottom of the page, select Request a password and CCC reset token.
- Input the filer’s CIK and the reason for the request (for example, forgot password) and select Request Token.
- Within a few minutes, an email containing a security token will be sent to the EDGAR POC email address on file for the filer.
- If you did not receive an email, see the guidance below for how to update the EDGAR POC email address.
- Once you receive the security token, select Reset password and CCC at the bottom of the page.
- Enter the CIK, the token from the email sent to the EDGAR POC, and the filer’s new password and new CCC—or the filer’s existing CCC and password if you wish to reconfirm the existing codes.
- Make sure to save the CCC and password in a secure location. The filer will need the CCC and passphrase to enroll in EDGAR Next prior to September 15, 2025 to avoid interruption in the ability to file. Enrollment ends December 19, 2025.
- Log into the dashboard of the EDGAR Filer Management website with Login.gov individual account credentials.
Filers that seek to enroll that have forgotten their passphrase—required for enrollment —may follow the instructions in How Do I Update EDGAR Passphrase and CCC to Enroll (and Avoid the Need to Submit Form ID).
If a filer cannot access the EDGAR POC email, the filer can update that email address by following the instructions provided in EDGAR Business Office Information for Filers, Reset Your EDGAR Passphrase, EDGAR POC Email, linked on the EDGAR Next page on SEC.gov.
An individual who can make filings for the filer can update the EDGAR POC email address in Retrieve/Edit Data on the EDGAR Filing and EDGAR Online Forms websites so long as the filer has not yet enrolled in EDGAR Next.
- Once a filer is enrolled in EDGAR Next, the filer’s account administrator will manage its EDGAR POC email on the EDGAR Filer Management dashboard. Other Retrieve/Edit Data features, however, will remain available on the EDGAR Filing and EDGAR Online Forms websites after enrollment.
- Retrieve/Edit Data will remain available on the EDGAR Filing and EDGAR Online Forms websites after the EDGAR Next September 15, 2025 compliance date, however, after that date all filers must manage the EDGAR POC on the EDGAR Filer Management dashboard, and only individuals with the correct permission for the filer will be able to view, submit, or edit the filer’s information.
Enrolled Filers and Filers Whose Form ID Was Granted on or After March 24, 2025

- If you do not have Login.gov individual account credentials for EDGAR, follow these instructions to obtain them.
- Select the Filer name associated with the CIK.
- Select Manage CCC & Password.
- You may now either change the CCC by generating a new CCC or creating a custom CCC:
- Select Generate CCC—EDGAR will generate a new CCC for the filer, or
