EDGAR Next—Improving Filer Access and Account Management

Partial graphic outlines how filers can prepare, enroll, and comply with the SEC’s changes to EDGAR system filer access and account management. View full infographic (PDF, 2.0 mb).
Transition to EDGAR Next: Prepare, Enroll, and Comply
- EDGAR Next Beta opened September 30, 2024, reflecting a Beta version of the EDGAR Filer Management website including the dashboard. It will remain open until at least December 19, 2025.
- Testers must possess individual account credentials from Login.gov to log into the dashboard. The Login.gov credentials created for use in the Beta are not test credentials—they will persist and may be used to log into EDGAR during enrollment and thereafter when EDGAR Next compliance is required. Therefore, use your real name and a valid email address that you will associate with your EDGAR account going forward to create the individual account credentials. Moreover, consider providing to Login.gov a different email address than that used for personal purposes because EDGAR uses the email address provided to Login.gov for identification and notification, and the email address is visible to others on the EDGAR Filer Management dashboard.
- Testers create a fictional test account to complete and submit “test” amended Form IDs in the Beta.
- Beta versions of all optional application programming interfaces (APIs) are available for testing and connection in the Beta. See the Overview of EDGAR APIs(PDF).
- Filers may develop connections to APIs and adjust any internal filing applications by referring to the Beta. Consult the API Development Toolkit.
- Beta currently reflects the two legacy EDGAR filing websites (EDGAR Filing and EDGAR Online Forms) with the current submission process. Up to and including September 12, 2025, filers will continue to make submissions on those websites according to the current EDGAR process. The Beta will be updated in a future release to reflect how filing will occur in EDGAR Filing and EDGAR Online Forms on and after the compliance date of September 15, 2025.
- Filers should prepare for enrollment by coordinating with all individuals and entities who currently file on their behalf. Each filer may enroll only once. Therefore, each filer should determine which entity or individual the filer will authorize to enroll it.
- Filers should gather information needed to enroll, including their central index key (CIK), CIK confirmation code (CCC) and passphrase. If filers are unsure whether their CCC or passphrase have been reset since September 2019, they should obtain a new passphrase and a new CCC..
- Filers who have lost their passphrase should reset it. Consult EBO's Reset Your EDGAR passphrase, EDGAR POC email (PDF) for step-by-step help. Filers who do not have their current CCC should reset it. Consult Generate new and replacement CCC, password and PMAC within How Do I Understand and Utilize EDGAR CIKs, Passphrases and Access Codes.
- Filers must be prepared to provide information about the persons whom they will authorize as account administrators during enrollment. Filers also may coordinate with their filing agents and other representatives about delegation and identify the persons they will authorize as technical administrators (if they will connect to the optional APIs).
- Entities and individuals that apply for access to EDGAR on Form ID should be prepared for longer than average processing times due to a surge in the volume of applications surrounding the EDGAR Next rulemaking transition. Filers should plan accordingly.
- If a Form ID application was submitted prior to Monday, March 24, 2025 and it was not granted by SEC staff by 10 p.m., Friday, March 21, 2025, EDGAR suspended it. Applicants whose Form IDs were suspended must re-apply for access on Form ID on the dashboard on or after Monday, March 24, 2025.
- The new EDGAR Filer Management website, including the dashboard, opened on March 24, 2025, and requires Login.gov individual account credentials for access.
- Enrollment —a streamlined process that allows existing EDGAR filers to transition to EDGAR Next —is now available on the dashboard.
- To avoid interruption in the ability to file, filers should enroll between March 24, 2025 and September 12, 2025.
- Individuals must possess individual account credentials from Login.gov to log into the dashboard to enroll filers. The email used for Login.gov credentials must match the email the person intends to use for EDGAR. Consider providing to Login.gov a different email address than that used for personal purposes because EDGAR uses the email address provided to Login.gov for identification and notification, and the email address is visible to others on the dashboard.
- Existing filers must enroll on the dashboard. Please refer to the November 21, 2024 webinar regarding enrollment, How Do I Enroll in EDGAR Next, and the Enrolling in EDGAR Next instructional video for detailed information and instructions about how to enroll.
- Prospective filers (and existing filers who are unable to enroll because they cannot obtain the necessary access codes) must complete and submit the amended Form ID on the dashboard to apply for EDGAR access. Prior versions of Form ID will be ineffective. If Commission staff grant the amended Form ID application submitted on the dashboard, the filer will be in compliance with the EDGAR Next changes, and thus will not be required to subsequently enroll on the dashboard.
- The optional APIs are available to filers (a) enrolled in EDGAR Next, or (b) whose Form ID applications submitted on or after March 24, 2025 have been granted by SEC staff.
- Filers will continue to make submissions on the legacy EDGAR filing websites using the current EDGAR process up to and including September 12, 2025.
- APIs will go live and be available to filers (a) enrolled in EDGAR Next, or (b) whose amended Form ID applications submitted on or after March 24, 2025 have been granted by SEC staff.
- Filers will continue to make submissions on the legacy EDGAR filing websites using the current EDGAR process up to and including September 12, 2025.
- ABSCOMP submissions will be made through the dashboard. The Request Asset-Backed Securities (ABS) Issuing Entities Creation option in the Retrieve/Edit Data section of the EDGAR Filing website will no longer be available. ABSCOMP filers should consult the ABS Issuing Entities guidance on the EDGAR Next page on SEC.gov.
- The Beta remains open and will be updated to reflect what will be required on the compliance date - in addition to Login.gov individual account credentials - to log into the two EDGAR filing websites (EDGAR Filing and EDGAR Online Forms). The update of the Beta is intended to enable filers to prepare for compliance with EDGAR Next on September 15, 2025.
- On September 15, 2025, access to all three EDGAR filing websites (EDGAR Filer Management, EDGAR Online Forms and EDGAR Filing) will require Login.gov individual account credentials and completion of multifactor authentication.
- Filers must comply with all requirements of Rule 10 of Regulation S-T and the EDGAR Filer Manual to file.
- The legacy EDGAR password, passphrase, and PMAC will be deactivated for filing, but will remain available until December 19, 2025 to allow any filers that have not enrolled by the compliance date to reset needed codes and submit their enrollment.
- Between September 15, 2025 and December 19, 2025, existing filers who have not enrolled will be unable to access EDGAR; these filers must enroll on the dashboard in order to file.
- The EDGAR Next Beta will remain open through at least December 19, 2025.
Enrollment ends at 10:00 p.m. on December 19, 2025. Any filers who have not enrolled by that time will be required to submit Form ID to apply for access to make submissions on their EDGAR accounts.
Enroll in EDGAR Next
Enrollment is a streamlined process that allows existing EDGAR filers to transition to EDGAR Next.
Filers should prepare for enrollment by coordinating with all individuals and entities who currently file on their behalf. Each filer may enroll only once. Therefore, each filer should determine which entity or individual the filer will authorize to enroll it.
To avoid interruption in the ability to file, filers should enroll between March 24, 2025 and September 12, 2025. Filers whose Form ID applications for EDGAR access are submitted and granted by SEC staff on or after March 24, 2025 are immediately subject to the requirements of EDGAR Next and do not need to enroll.
Please refer to the November 21, 2024 webinar regarding enrollment and the frequently asked questions about EDGAR Next for information about how to prepare and enroll. In addition, consult How Do I Enroll in EDGAR and the Enrolling in EDGAR Next instructional video for step-by-step guidance.

EDGAR Next Beta
Access the EDGAR Next Beta environment. You will be redirected to the landing page of the Beta EDGAR Filer Management website.
Obtain individual account credentials from Login.gov by selecting Sign-in with Login.gov on the homepage of the Beta EDGAR Filer Management website. You will be redirected to Login.gov to create credentials.
- Login.gov individual account credentials created to test on the EDGAR Next Beta are actual Login.gov credentials that will persist and may be used to log into EDGAR during enrollment and thereafter when EDGAR Next compliance is required. Use your real name and a valid email address that you will associate with your EDGAR account going forward to create the individual account credentials. Moreover, consider providing to Login.gov a different email address than that used for personal purposes because EDGAR uses the email address provided to Login.gov for identification and notification, and the email address is visible to others on the EDGAR Filer Management dashboard.
- After obtaining individual account credentials from Login.gov, you will be redirected to the Beta to begin testing.
You must complete and submit a test amended Form ID as a new filer to obtain a test central index key (CIK) account number for testing in the Beta. If you need assistance, follow the step-by-step instructions provided in the EDGAR Next Filer Testing Guidance (PDF).
Testers should submit only fictional data on the EDGAR Next Beta. Do not submit any sensitive personally identifiable information (sensitive PII) or information that you may wish to keep confidential. For creation of Login.gov individual account credentials, however, testers should use their real name and a valid email address that they intend to be linked with their EDGAR account going forward.
