Outreach and Recruitment

Strategic outreach and recruitment is a key part of the SEC’s strategy for building and maintaining a high performing workforce. The SEC establishes partnerships with professional associations and educational organizations; posts vacancies with over 200 recruitment sources, uses social media; and participates in career fairs and other networking events to develop and maintain a pipeline of diverse talent for professional employment and internship opportunities.

Fostering Inclusion at the SEC

The SEC is committed to cultivating a workplace where all employees feel valued and enabled to develop and contribute to their full potential. The SEC provides employees with numerous training opportunities to acquire the skills and certifications needed to succeed in their positions and progress in their careers. In addition, the agency has a formal mentoring program for employees that focuses on professional development.

Diversity Council

Since its creation in 2014, the SEC Diversity Council has been actively involved in supporting and facilitating diversity and inclusion in the agency’s workforce. The Council was formed to advise the Commission on agency matters relating to diversity, including management, employment, and business activities. SEC Chairman Jay Clayton currently serves as the Chair of the Diversity Council, and its members include representatives from agency management, the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU), and SEC Employee Affinity Groups. Representatives from the SEC’s 11 regional offices also attend Diversity Council meetings.

Employee Affinity Groups

Employee Affinity Groups at the SEC are instrumental in fostering workplace inclusion. These employee-led groups provide networking opportunities to all interested employees, offer cultural and educational programs, and organize programs for Special Observances and heritage months. The SEC sponsors the following Employee Affinity Groups:

  • African-American Council
  • American Indian Heritage Committee
  • Asian-American and Pacific Islander Committee
  • Caribbean American Heritage Committee
  • Disability Interests Advisory Committee
  • Hispanic and Latino Opportunity, Leadership, and Advocacy Committee
  • Pride Alliance
  • Veterans Committee
  • Women’s Committee
