Fixed Income Markets

The Commission is considering ways to improve the transparency, liquidity, and efficiency of the fixed income markets. As part of that effort, in July 2012, the Commission issued a Report on the Municipal Securities Market. The report describes the market structure for municipal securities and offers a number of recommendations, including initiatives to improve pre-trade and post-trade price transparency and to strengthen brokers' existing obligations to provide investors with best execution and fair pricing.

The Commission held a roundtable on the fixed income markets at its headquarters in Washington, D.C., on April 16, 2013.

Fixed Income Roundtable

The roundtable consisted of four panels and provided a forum for in-depth discussion of ideas to enhance the municipal securities market as well as the extent to which the recommendations in the Commission's 2012 report on municipal securities could be applied to the corporate bond market and asset-backed securities markets.

The SEC welcomes feedback on the topics addressed at the roundtable. Information that you submit will become part of the public record.
