Apply for EDGAR access—applicants with a CIK but no access codes (formerly “Convert Paper Only Filer to Electronic Filer”)

EDGAR filer information > How do I? > Apply for EDGAR access—applicants with a CIK but no access codes (formerly “Convert Paper Only Filer to Electronic Filer”)

Follow these steps if you would like to make electronic filings on EDGAR, AND

(a) To date you have made paper filings (only) with the SEC; OR

(b) You already have an assigned EDGAR central index key (CIK) number as a result of making submissions on a related filing system, such as FINRA’s WebCRD system.

1) Go to the Filer Management Website.

  • From the left menu, select Apply for EDGAR Access: Applicants with a CIK but Without EDGAR Access Codes (formerly Convert Paper Only Filer to Electronic Filer)
  • The page for Apply for EDGAR Access: Applicants with a CIK but Without EDGAR Access Codes will appear.

2) Enter your existing CIK.

  • If you do not know your existing CIK, you may look it up by typing the name of the company, fund or individual associated with the CIK in the search box of either the EDGAR Company Filings CIK Lookup or the EDGAR Company Database (the CIK will be among the information returned in the search).
  • If a broker-dealer filing its annual reports on EDGAR has multiple CIKs, it must file its annual reports on EDGAR under the CIK associated with its FOCUS Reports on EDGAR (the file number will begin with 008).

3) Prepare and submit the Form ID application.
