XBRL Taxonomy Update, June 21, 2021

June 23, 2021

On June 21, 2021, the Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (EDGAR) system was upgraded to Release 21.2 and now supports the 2021 International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Taxonomy. The 2021 IFRS Taxonomy reflects the same taxonomy that the International Accounting Standards Board made available on its website on March 24, 2021.

The EDGAR system no longer supports the following list of taxonomies.

  • 2019 U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)
  • 2019 SEC Reporting (SRT)
  • 2017 Countries (COUNTRY)
  • 2019 Currencies (CURRENCY)
  • 2012 Document and Entity (DEI)
  • 2019 Document and Entity (DEI)
  • 2019 Exchanges (EXCH)
  • 2011 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS)
  • 2012 Risk-Return (RR)
  • 2011 Standard Industrial Classification (SIC)

The staff does not anticipate that the removal of the 2019 IFRS taxonomy will occur before September 2021. Please see https://www.sec.gov/info/edgar/edgartaxonomies.shtml for a complete listing of supported standard taxonomies.

On March 22, 2021, the EDGAR system was upgraded to Release 21.1 and supports the 2021 versions of the US GAAP, SRT, COUNTRY, CURRENCY, DEI, EXCH, NAICS, RR, SIC, and STPR taxonomies.

The staff encourages companies to use the most recent version of taxonomy releases for their XBRL exhibits to take advantage of the most up-to-date tags related to new accounting standards and other improvements.
