Open Data Policy
On May 9th 2013, the White House issued Executive Order 13642, "Making Open and Machine Readable the New Default for Government Information," establishing open and machine readable data as the new default for Government information.
On that day, Office of Management and Budget (OMB) also issued Memorandum, M-13-13, "Open Data Policy - Managing Information as an Asset," providing agencies with specific requirements and implementation guidelines for adopting the Order.
As per this requirement, federal agencies are tasked with creating and expanding an inventory of the data sets managed within their enterprise, and to outline a schedule by which this enterprise data inventory will be expanded, enriched and opened.
