Irving M. Pollack was a distinguished public servant.  The Securities and Exchange Commission is fortunate to have benefitted from his work for 34 years and his legacy for even longer.  He served with great distinction as Commissioner, as the Director of both the Enforcement and Trading and Markets Divisions, and as Assistant General Counsel.

Among his multitude of accomplishments at the Commission, Irving was the first director of the Enforcement Division.  Having worked in several divisions, Irving was adept at facilitating cooperation and information sharing within the agency.  Once called “a father of modern securities regulation” by the New York Times, Irving was a man of incredible integrity who was truly passionate about securities law.  Irving recognized the immense responsibility of the Enforcement Division to ensure honest business practices and pursued that goal vigorously.  Each year, the SEC presents the Irving M. Pollack award to an enforcement staff member who demonstrates fairness and compassion as well as a dedication to public service and the SEC. 

Irving was the consummate gentleman and is remembered for his kindness and professionalism. The SEC’s work today is a reflection of his lasting impact.  We extend our deepest sympathies to Irving’s family and loved ones.
