"YJ" Julie Fischer

YJ Fischer is the Director of the Office of International Affairs, where she leads a 60-person team focused on enforcement, regulatory policy, and technical assistance.

Before joining the SEC, Ms. Fischer spent nearly two decades navigating complex regulatory challenges in the public and private sectors. During the Obama administration, she served at the U.S. State Department, where she advised on economic policies, launched public-private partnerships, participated in UN-led negotiations, and helped implement the Iran nuclear agreement. In the private sector, she led product policy at YouTube, oversaw global market entry for several start-ups, and closed multi-million dollar government investments. Early in her career, she practiced law at Kirkland and Ellis.

Ms. Fischer has written and spoken about foreign policy and economic issues and her commentary has appeared in the Financial Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and USA Today. She has appeared as an analyst on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News.

Ms. Fischer holds a bachelor’s degree and law degree from Columbia University. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the State Department’s Meritorious Honor Award, Kirkland & Ellis’ Pro Bono Service Award, and is a commissioned Kentucky Colonel.
