About

Informed investors make better investment decisions, and the SEC’s Office of Investor Education and Assistance (OIEA) provides a variety of services and resources to help investors invest wisely, build wealth, and avoid fraud.

Each year, more than 8 million Americans visit Investor.gov, a website managed by OIEA, to access financial planning tools and calculators, a search tool to check the background of investment professionals, and information on building wealth and avoiding fraud. In addition to publishing online content, OIEA staff interact regularly with investors through the office’s investor assistance program and outreach events.

Investor assistance staff serve tens of thousands of investors who contact the SEC each year with investment-related questions and complaints. The investor education team participates in more than 500 investor education events every year and produces Investor Alerts and Bulletins to educate and protect investors by providing content on how to avoid investment scams as well as information on investment topics and trends.
