SEC Chairman to Undergo Surgery; Complete Recovery Expected After Brief Recuperation

Washington, D.C., Jan. 27, 2006 - Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox will undergo surgery for removal of a thymoma on Monday, January 30. The hospitalization is expected to last just a few days.

"I look forward to returning to my duties very quickly," said Chairman Cox. "I plan to be back in the office in mid-February."

A full recovery is expected, and it is anticipated that the surgery will complete the necessary treatment for this condition.
