Miami Regional Office Participates in Investor Education Events During Fifth Annual World Investor Week

Miami, Oct. 4, 2021 – The Securities and Exchange Commission’s Miami Regional Office is hosting a series of virtual investor education events from October 4-10 as part of the fifth annual World Investor Week, a global campaign promoted by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) to raise awareness about the importance of financial investor education and protection.

This global effort marks the fifth time that U.S. securities regulators and other IOSCO members on six continents will join together to promote investor education and protection and highlight the SEC’s various initiatives in these two critical areas.

“Financial literacy is fundamental to our mission of protecting investors, maintaining fair and orderly markets, and facilitating capital formation,” said Eric I. Bustillo, Director of the SEC’s Miami Regional Office. “Ensuring that investors and future investors have access to material information so they can make informed investment decisions is a cornerstone of the federal securities laws. Making presentations virtually again this year has given us the opportunity to reach many more people in our region as we continue to promote our very important mission.”

The program will include virtual presentations to university students, law students, older adults, and others throughout the Miami office region. The presentations are as follows:

• Oct. 5 – University of Miami, Business School, Coral Gables, FL
• Oct. 6 – University of Miami, Osher Learning Lifelong Learning Institute, Coral Gables, FL
• Oct. 6 – University of Miami School of Law, Black Law Student Association, Coral Gables, FL
• Oct. 7 – Florida State University School of Law, Black Law Student Association, Cuban American Bar Association, Hispanic Law Student Association, American Civil Liberties Union student chapter, OutLaw (student organization dedicated to serving the LGBTQ+ law student community), Tallahassee, FL
• Oct. 7 – University of Louisiana at Monroe, Monroe, LA
• Oct. 7 – University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, MS
