SEC’s Philadelphia Office Hosts Successful Senior Outreach Event on Financial Fraud

June 20, 2019

The Securities and Exchange Commission’s Philadelphia Regional Office hosted an educational event for senior investors on June 11 at Montgomery County Community College in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Seniors learned about various investment products, the effects that changes in thought and memory can have on decision-making, and ways that seniors can protect themselves from financial fraud. The crowd was actively engaged throughout the event, participating in discussions on the various topics.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of our job is connecting with the public and raising investor awareness and knowledge,” said G. Jeffrey Boujoukos, Director of the Philadelphia Regional Office. “The attendees at this event were engaged, asked great questions and came away with valuable information about investing their hard earned savings and avoiding fraud.”

Commission staff were joined by the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and Dr. Ronald Costen of the Temple University Institute on Protective Services.
