A minimun of $2.5 million for hedge fund investors is very reasonable. With more depending on saving for retirement, an investment such as a hedge fund is not suitable for most investors.
I have personally seen hedge funds used only by institutions and they were seldom successful. But they had so little invested that it was not a disaster.
