Arleen R. ThomasAmerican Institute of Certified Public AccountantsArleen R. Thomas is Senior Vice President - Member Competency and Development at the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Thomas is responsible for leading teams that support the AICPA's members in public accounting, tax and industry. She is also responsible for the areas of the Institute that provide resources, information and guidance to all membership segments, including publications, CPE and professional conferences. Thomas oversees the Institute's efforts to restore investor confidence in the markets through its corporate responsibility programs. Thomas has served in various positions at the AICPA, including Vice President of Professional Standards and Services and Vice President of Self-Regulation and the SEC Practice Section. She joined the AICPA as Director of Accounting Standards, serving as the technical advisor to the U.S. representatives on the International Accounting Standards Committee. Prior to joining the Institute in April 1992, Thomas was a senior manager at KPMG Peat Marwick in the department of professional practice. She was also a statistical audit specialist and national instructor for the firm's audit and accounting programs. In 2004, she was named one of the top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting by Accounting Today. Thomas holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Metropolitan State College in Denver.
