Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month

The SEC welcomed Labor Secretary R. Alexander Acosta Sept. 18 to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month. The son of Cuban refugees, Acosta shared his thoughts about growing up in Miami and the contributions Hispanic Americans have made to society in pursuit of the American dream. Staff from SEC regional offices have also celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month.

Following Secretary Acosta’s presentation, the SEC event sponsors, the Hispanic and Latino Opportunity, Leadership, Advocacy Committee (HALO) and the Office of Minority and Women Inclusion (OMWI) – invited the secretary and staff to enjoy a sampling of Latin cuisine.

SEC staff more than doubled its goal of collecting 40,000 lbs. of groceries for local food banks.
