Roundtable on Fair Value Accounting Standards

Kathy Petroni
Professor of Accounting, Michigan State University

Kathy Petroni is the Deloitte/Michael Licata Professor of Accounting at Michigan State University. She received her undergraduate degree in accounting from Michigan State, served in the public accounting profession for three years as a C.P.A., and earned her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1990. Her research focuses on financial accounting with expertise in accounting for the property-casualty insurance industry. Her research has been published in such journals as Journal of Accounting & Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, Review of Accounting Studies, Journal of Risk and Insurance, Contemporary Accounting Research, and Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory. Kathy has extensive teaching experience at the undergraduate, MBA, Ph.D., and executive levels and has been awarded both departmental and university-wide teaching awards. She also served as Acting Chairperson of her Department for two years. She is currently on the Editorial Advisory and Review Board of The Accounting Review and Contemporary Accounting Research and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Accounting & Economics and Accounting Horizons. She is active with the AAA. She was chairperson of the 2005 AAA/FASB Financial Reporting Issues Conference Planning Committee and the research program coordinator for the AAA Financial Accounting and Reporting Section 2004 mid-year meeting. In addition, she served on the following AAA committees: Financial Accounting Standards, Publication, Competitive Manuscript, Notable Contributions to Accounting Literature Award Selection, New Faculty Consortium, and Trueblood Seminars.
