From: Mary Jane Johnson [mjj@horwitzco.com] Sent: Saturday, June 22, 2002 11:31 AM To: rule-comments@sec.gov Subject: S7-25-99 As a Registered Investment Advisor and member of the Financial Planning Association, I ask you to withdraw this proposed rule exempting certain broker-dealer activity forn the Investment Advisers Act of 1940. In this time when investors need even greater protections against self dealing and require greater disclosure and assurance that the financial advice received is competent, fair and without conflicts of interest, it is irresponsible to exempt broker-dealers from the very rules and regulations that protect consumers. Hold all broker dealers providing financial planning to the standards that will help to ensure that investors are receiving competent advice with full disclosure. Withdraw the proposed rule. Sincerely, Mary Jane Johnson, CFP (tm) 218 N. Main St. Morton, IL 61550
