Subject: File #S7-18-96 Date: 5/26/97 8:58 AM Jonathan G Katz, Secretary Securities and Exchange Commission 450 5th Street N.W. Washington, DC 20549-6009 Dear Sir: I am writing in support of the new profile proposal and related new rules for the development of a kinder, simpler, user-friendly alternative to today's cumbersome, legalistic, verbose fund prospectuses. I have been investing in mutual funds for about 35 years now and when I started I tried to read all the information carefully and only found myself getting confused and distracted from the material. Thereafter, I usually only tried to review the highlights of the prospectus and the annual report, which was not very adequate for being fully informed. This new concept of defining the nine key questions is a godsend to the small investor and will go a long way to understanding what we really are investing in rather than having to go to the library and reading Morningstar and Value Line to get some straight answers and information. This can only be PROGRESS AND I ENCOURAGE YOU TO ENACT THIS FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT. Financially yours, Robert S. Cline 801 Stuart Drive Sanford, NC 27330-7625
