One of the elements that could be added to your filing that would help create awareness and support the "plain english" concept would be to measure and disclose where revenue is being generated - not as total revenue but as a percentage of the total gross revenue. This would help define the expectation for the consumer and speak to the bottom line as to how and where the "real" business is generated. Guidelines would need to be established - and there would need to be some break out of individuals who fall under large RIA umbrellas so that the consumer can pierce the global facade of a large corporation to better understand the business practices of the individual - or group of individuals that are providing financial advice and expect some form of compensation in return.
