Subject: Charitable Giving
     
I am responding on behalf of Ellen S. Rogers, Corporate Secretary for 
Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO) (202/872-3526).  Ms. Rogers comments 
are:
     1.   The legislation would put a damper on support for charities; 
     2.   Corporate giving is a way for companies to give back to their
communities;
     3.   A small amount per share (less than 0.1 in PEPCO's case) goes to
charity.
