Subject: s7-16-97 Date: 2/24/98 3:38 PM I know this is late, but I though I would offer my two cents about how technology could change the securities markets. This area was not mentioned in your document. The state of Iowa has a really neat web site that offers up to the minute financial information about state revenues and expenses. This might be the wave of the future. Have you considered sponsoring a study to see if the transmittal of instantaneous financial infomation would be possible for publicly traded firms? This would enable investors to get really current information. I think this could work if the role of the auditor was changed somewhat to attesting to the role of the accounting system. Just a thought. I hear this kind of thing being talked about in academic circles but I have not seen the SEC sponsor this type of initiative. Maybe you already have. Julia L.
