XBRL Taxonomy Update, June 29, 2020

June 29, 2020

On June 29, 2020, the Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (EDGAR) system was upgraded in Release 20.2 and now supports the 2020 International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) taxonomy. The 2020 IFRS taxonomy is the same taxonomy that the International Accounting Standards Board made available on its website on March 16, 2020.

Additionally, the EDGAR system was upgraded in Release 20.2 to support the 2020 Document and Entity Information (DEI) taxonomy, which was updated as a result of the Commission’s adoption of certain amendments, including the addition of a check box to the cover pages of Forms 10-K, 20-F, and 40-F indicating whether an internal control over financial reporting (ICFR) auditor attestation is included in the filing.[1]

The EDGAR system no longer supports the 2012 and 2013 Investment Schedule (INVEST), 2018 U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Financial Reporting (U.S. GAAP), 2018 SEC Reporting, 2016 Countries (COUNTRY), 2017 Currencies (CURRENCY), and 2018 Exchanges (EXCH) taxonomies. The staff does not anticipate that the removal of the 2018 IFRS taxonomy will occur before September 2020.

The staff encourages companies to use the most recent version of taxonomy releases for their XBRL exhibits to take advantage of the most up-to-date tags related to new accounting standards and other improvements.

On March 9, 2020, the EDGAR system was upgraded in Release 20.1.1 and now supports the 2020 U.S. GAAP Financial Reporting, 2020 SEC Reporting, 2020 Countries, 2020 Currencies, 2020 Exchanges, and 2020 Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) taxonomies.

Please see https://www.sec.gov/info/edgar/edgartaxonomies.shtml for a complete listing of supported standard taxonomies.
