Announcement

SEC to Permit Voluntary Filing Using Inline XBRL

June 14, 2016
On June 13, 2016, the Securities and Exchange Commission announced that it will allow companies to voluntarily file structured financial statement data in a format known as Inline XBRL through March 2020.  Please see the press release at https://www.sec.gov/news/pressrelease/2016-117.html
In addition, the interactive data test suite located at http://www.sec.gov/spotlight/xbrl/interactive_data_test_suite.shtml has been updated to reflect new Subsection 5.2.5 of the EDGAR Filer Manual (Volume II) EDGAR Filing (Version 37) (http://www.sec.gov/info/edgar/edgarfm-vol2-v37.pdf), which describes requirements for Inline XBRL documents.  For a summary of the changes, see the change log on the last page of the summary file (http://www.sec.gov/info/edgar/ednews/efmtest/efmtest-37-160614.pdf).
Comments on the test suite may be submitted via email to StructuredData@sec.gov indicating “Interactive Data Test Suite” in the subject field.  The purpose of the public test suite is to assist developers of software that must validate Interactive Data prior to its submission to EDGAR.  The test suite consists of many small Interactive Data instances, schemas, and linkbases that are categorized as to whether they violate a validation check, and if so, what validation check they violate and whether that would result in a warning or in an error that would cause the Interactive Data to be rejected.
This update to the test suite does not indicate Commission approval of any potential regulatory changes related to the EDGAR Filer Manual.  Please refer to the SEC’s EDGAR webpage at http://www.sec.gov/info/edgar.shtml for information on when the Commission approves changes related to the EDGAR Filer Manual.
