STATEMENT BY CHAIRMAN ARTHUR LEVITT ON RESIGNATION ANNOUNCEMENT OF SECRETARY ROBERT RUBIN May 12, 1999 It has been a great privilege to work alongside Bob Rubin on many of the important issues that affect our financial markets. America's investors and our nation's markets are better off because of his passion, commitment, and intellect. He leaves behind a legacy public servants will aspire to for years to come. On behalf of everyone at the Securities and Exchange Commission, I wish Bob Rubin the best and thank him for his past support. On a more personal note, it has been a great honor for me to serve with Bob. Time and again, I marveled at his brilliance, humor and fairness. He has been a great source of counsel and friendship to me over the years and I hope I can continue to call on him. I also want to congratulate Larry Summers and Stu Eizenstat. The Treasury Department couldn't have been left in more capable hands. I look forward to working with them both.
