   SEC ANNOUNCES SELECTION OF JOHN RILEY BRISSMAN AS ASSOCIATE
  REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF THE COMMISSION'S MIDWEST REGIONAL OFFICE


      Washington, D.C., January 23, 1998 -- The Commission  today
announced  the  selection  of John Riley  Brissman  as  Associate
Regional  Director  for  Regulation of the  Commission's  Midwest
Regional  Office  (MRO).   The  MRO administers  enforcement  and
regulatory  programs for the nine Midwest states.   As  Associate
Regional Director, Mr. Brissman will assist the Regional Director
in  overseeing  the  regulation of entities registered  with  the
Commission  and  located in the Midwest.  These  include  broker-
dealers,  investment  advisers,  investment  companies,  transfer
agents and self regulatory organizations.

     Mr. Brissman is currently an Assistant Regional Director for
Enforcement   in   the   MRO  supervising  two   accounting   and
investigative branches which provide accounting and investigative
support  in  all of the complex enforcement matters in  the  MRO.
Mr.  Brissman  also  served  as an Assistant  Regional  Director,
Regulation  where  he  supervised three  investment  adviser  and
investment  company  branches from 1993 to 1995.    Mr.  Brissman
initially  joined the staff of the MRO in 1974  as  a  securities
compliance examiner.

      Mr. Brissman graduated from Wabash College and received his
MBA in finance from Loyola University.
