                SEC Staff to Conduct Briefing on
                "Aircraft Carrier" Rule Proposals
                                

What: The SEC staff will conduct a pen and pad media briefing on
      the upcoming proposal of new rules and amendments to
      modernize and clarify the structure of the regulatory
      system for offerings under the Securities Act of 1933.

      The briefing will be conducted by Brian Lane, Director of
      the Division of Corporation Finance, and other staff
      members.  Information from the briefing is embargoed until
      after the Commission votes on the measures (approximately
      11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 15, 1998).  Note:  This
      Open Commission Meeting date was originally slated for
      Wednesday, October 14, 1998 at 10:00 a.m.
