FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2001-55 SEC ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF GLENN S. GORDON AS DEPUTY REGIONAL DIRECTOR Washington, D.C., May 25, 2001 - Acting Chairman Laura S. Unger today announced the selection of Glenn S. Gordon as Deputy Regional Director in the Commission's Southeast Regional Office (SERO). The region comprises offices in Miami, Florida and Atlanta, Georgia, and has both enforcement and regulatory programs in an eight-state area, and in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. As Deputy Regional Director, Mr. Gordon will assist the Regional Director in overseeing these programs in the SERO, as well as coordinating these functions with those in the Atlanta District Office. Mr. Gordon joined the SERO staff in 1995. During his tenure in that office, he has served in several positions of increasing responsibility in the enforcement program. For the past two years, Mr. Gordon has been an Assistant Director for Enforcement in the SERO. Mr. Gordon has had supervisory responsibility for several of the SERO's major enforcement cases, including matters involving earnings management, auditor independence, margin lending, and insider trading. Among other matters, Mr. Gordon supervised the Commission's actions against W.R. Grace & Co., PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, and Investment Street, a Miami broker-dealer with day-trading customers. Mr. Gordon also supervised the investigation that led to the institution of the Commission's first charges based primarily on alleged sales practice violations in the sales of variable annuities. Prior to joining the SEC, Mr. Gordon was a litigation associate at the law firms of Davis Polk & Wardwell and Proskauer Rose in New York. He also clerked for Judge Gerald Bard Tjoflat, United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. SEC Director of Enforcement, Richard Walker, said "Glenn is a lawyer of considerable talent who has played a large role in many of the successful cases brought by the Southeast Regional Office over the past several years. Mr. Gordon received his B.A. and B.S. degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1983. He received his J.D. degree from Cornell Law School in 1986 where he graduated cum laude and where he was an Articles Editor of the Cornell Law Review. # # #
