SEC, State Securities Regulators Announce 
Investors Town Meeting in Norfolk, Virginia on June 6

Free program includes seminars for saving and investing wisely
 
Washington, D.C., May 23, 2001-If you've ever wondered where you're 
going to get the money to send your kids to college, take care of 
aging relatives, or retire from work, you're not alone.   But help 
is on the way to the Hampton Roads area courtesy of the U.S. Securities 
and Exhange Commission and the Virginia State Corporation Commission.

Numerous surveys show that most Americans lack the basic information 
they need to save and invest wisely.  That's why the SEC has conducted 
more than 40 town meetings in communities across the country to discuss 
the timeless principles of successful investing.  

The SEC's next town meeting will take place at the Sheraton Norfolk 
Waterside (777 Waterside Drive) on Wednesday, June 6 featuring SEC 
Investor Education Director Susan F. Wyderko and Ron Thomas, Director 
of the SCC's Division of Securities and Retail Franchising.  The 
educational meeting is free to the public. 

"With nearly half of American households relying on the stock market 
to achieve financial security, it's important that we help people learn 
how to balance their financial goals with their tolerance for risk," 
Wyderko said.  "There are no shortcuts to financial success."  
  
"We're bringing Wall Street to Hampton Roads," Thomas said.  "This is 
a wonderful opportunity for area residents to learn how to build financial 
security and avoid costly mistakes."

In addition to the town meeting, the free program will also feature 
one-hour seminars on successful investing, mutual funds, selecting 
stocks, retirement saving, financial planning and debt management.

5:30 - 6:30 p.m.  	Town Meeting featuring Wyderko and Thomas
6:45 - 7:45 p.m.	Investing Seminars
8:00 - 9:00 p.m.	Investing Seminars

Admission is free but reservations are recommended because seating is
