SEC Website To Discontinue Gopher Service Temporarily

Technical changes have made it necessary for the SEC to discontinue Gopher service on the SEC website temporarily.

Gopher is the information-access service that preceded the World Wide Web on the Internet; it involves a hierarchical (tree) menu of files that can be accessed and viewed. Most Gopher browsers are text-only (although a few are able to display graphics). The majority of modern web browsers (Netscape, MS Explorer, and so on) can also view materials offered by Gopher servers. The SEC has provided Gopher service to its website materials since the site went on-line in September 1995.

Any future changes to the status of SEC Gopher service will be announced on this site. The SEC regrets any inconvenience that this causes to its Internet users. Inquiries may be directed to webmaster@sec.gov.
