EDGAR XFDL Technical Specification (Version 3, Revision 2)
Effective: Feb 23, 2006
In support of EDGAR Release 9.3 (effective Feb 6, 2006), updates were made to the EDGAR XFDL Technical Specification. Additional changes were made on February 23, 2006. This version of the document is labeled Version 3, Revision 2. The revised specification is currently available via the links that appear at the end of this document.
The EDGAR XFDL Technical Specification (Version 3, Revision 2) provides guidance to interested filers for creating XFDL filings without the use of EDGARLink. The expectation is that software developers, working on behalf of filers, will construct software that will generate an XFDL filing that can be successfully parsed by the EDGAR Receipt Server.
This release introduces updates to submission Templates 1, 2, and 3, and EDGARLink software that are based on recent SEC requests and rulemaking activities. EDGAR 9.3 server software supports all of the field identifiers that were valid in the 9.2 version of the PureEdge templates.
Changes By Template
A summary of the Release 9.3 changes are as follows (please refer to the appendices that appear in the XFDL specification for details):
Template 1
- The following submission types are no longer allowed in the SubTable_submissionType_ field:
F-2, F-2/A, F-2D, F-2DPOS, F-2MEF, S-2, S-2/A, S-2MEF
- In order to specify Investment Company Type information, the following new fields are allowed for applicable submission types:
SubInvCompany_isImCompany_, SubInvCompany_invCompanyType_
- In order to specify new Series and Classes (Contracts) information, the following new fields are allowed for applicable submission types:
SubScNew_groupId_, SubScNew_seriesName_, SubScNew_seriesId_, SubScNew_useCompanyNameAsSeriesNameFlag_, SubScNew_className_, SubScNew_useSeriesNameAsClassNameFlag_, SubScNew_useCompanyNameAsClassNameFlag_
- In order to specify existing Series and Classes (Contracts) information, the following new fields are allowed for applicable submission types:

- In order to specify merging Series and Classes (Contracts) information, the following new fields are allowed for applicable submission types:

- In order to specify itemized Series and Class (Contract) IDs for 24F-2NT and 24F-2NT/A, the SubSalesShares_series_ field has been replaced by the SubSalesShares_seriesOrClassId_ field and the SubSalesShares_itemizeFlag_ field has been added.
Template 2
- The following submission types are no longer allowed in the SubTable_submissionType_ field (as of February 9, 2006):

There are two components to the specification that can be downloaded separately. The first is the specification itself, which contains details about the release, general instructions on the templates, general rules about the XFDL file being created, and specific rules on the XFDL nodes containing data elements. It also includes information regarding the content of the appendices and some sample documents. The second document gives specific requirements for each form type.
