Date: 12/14/97 6:13 PM Our system of government is based on checks and balances. Corporations have been growing greatly in their power to affect the lives of people and the wellbing of the planet. Checks upon their actions, which may sometmes be unwise, short-sighted, or dangerous, have not grown comparably. It is important that the SEC not reduce the ability of shareholders to raise issues of social responsiblity at corporate annual meetings.
