Revision of the Commission's Auditor Independence Requirements

AGENCY: Securities and Exchange Commission

ACTION: Extension of time period to submit materials for public hearing on September 20, 2000; location of hearings

SUMMARY: On August 10, 2000, the Securities and Exchange Commission issued a Notice announcing that it would hold additional public hearings on September 13, 2000 in New York and on September 20, 2000 in Washington, D.C. on proposed rule amendments regarding auditor independence. The Notice is available on the Commission's web site at http://www.sec.gov/rules/extra/33-7880.htm. The Notice set September 5, 2000 as the date by which the Commission must receive copies of oral statements or summaries of testimony by those requesting to testify. We are now extending the date by which persons testifying on September 20 must submit those materials. The new deadline is September 12, 2000. The date to submit materials for the September 13 hearing remains September 5, 2000. The hearing on September 13 will be held at Pace Downtown Theatre at Pace University, Spruce Street between Park Row and Gold Street, New York, New York (across from City Hall Park). The hearing on September 20 will be held in the William O. Douglas Room at the Commission's headquarters at 450 Fifth Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20549.
