How is it possible to act on the \"public's best interest\" when there is the best interest of short sellers (who want the price to go down) and calls (who want the price to go up)? So whose best interest exactly are you \"looking out\" for in enacting this? Having the ability to halt trading at your discretion means that one side is benefitting (historically, Wall St. and \"big money\") while the other side (retail) is being hurt. The only way to have a FREE and FAIR market is to allow the markets to continue regardless of the situation.
