As a portfolio manager and individual investor in Closed end funds, I greatly support the need for annual elections. Closed end fund boards have a long history of ignoring discounts and accountability to their shareholders. These annual elections are very important to help ensure that the board is serving as fiduciaries and in the best interest of all. Without these meetings, the boards may become more entrenched and the discounts will likely widen at the harm of many shareholders and investors.
