Subject: File No. S7-42-10 - Comment from Marybeth Gardam

February 10, 2012

Dear SEC Commissioners,

Please do not give in to industry pressures on Section 1504 of the Dodd-Frank Act (the Cardin-Lugar Amendment) - and make sure that ALL companies are covered, every country and every project gets reported, and loopholes that would allow large sums of money to go unreported are closed.

My Comment:

Just because a company is big and successful and employs a lot of people does not give it the right to conduct business secretly here or abroad. Think about the power that gives them! Some of these international corporations already have more money than some nation states! If you give them the power to do their business invisibly, you make their power that much more absolute. And absolute power corrupts absolutely. It's already corrupting our democracy!
