We're shooting ourselves, future generations, in the foot by disregarding insidious and lingering toxic pollutants that mineral mining and refinement emits into the environment we depend on for survival, and all for the sake of short term growth in GDP. Studies show that in spite of huge expansion in GDP over the last half century, Americans, and citizens of other developed nations are NO BETTER OFF, and NO HAPPIER, than they were in the 1950s. Why strive to destroy our only possible home for the sack of personal greed and corruption? This is a critical failure of government for its people and will result only in great contempt by the same for abusive government. Who is the government established to protect? People or corporations? People, and corporations are not people
