Dear Commissioner Paredes,

We wanted to share with you an article the Enough Project prepared entitled "What Conflict Minerals Legislation Is Actually Accomplishing in Congo". The article was posted on Huffington Post yesterday, August 9, 2011.

Section 1502 has spurred efforts by industry groups and regional governments to reform the mining sector in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. A coalition of 40 Congolese human rights groups called it "the leverage needed to instill and impose ethical business practices in the Great Lakes region."

The article details current efforts on the ground in response to Section 1502.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
