I am totally against the raising the minimum on Hedge Fund investing. Especially removing the fixed asset portion of the equation.

Many people have non-liquid assets that should not be disqualified.

I am a fairly sophisticated investor that wants the ability to invest in Hedge Funds if I determine it will help diversify my portfolio.

Refer to John Mauldin's suggestion for a new Hedge Fund Investment Company.
