I am a physician who is nearing retirement, and have managed my own retirement fund for the last 20 years. I am not a professional investor, but have done a decent job at managing my investments, with nearly $1M in my retirement IRA. It is very important that I have access to leveraged and inverse funds, to be able to hedge against a market downturn. To deny my the access to these investments, would be to put me at a disadvantage to professional investors, who are able to use these investments to benefit their clients. While these investments have inherent risks, they also can be a valuable tool to mitigate risk for individual investors like myself, especially for a bull market that is long in the tooth.
