I strongly oppose this proposal. It appears to be rooted in the misguided assumption that government must protect people from themselves. Since the concepts of freedom and personal responsibility are inseparable, I view this proposal as an affront to liberty. Freedom to make financial choices is surely fundamental to our concept of personal liberty and this proposal constitutes an unprecedented intrusion against basic liberties and the consequences of exercising them.
