Rule Comments,
A person who buys a company's stock, is buying partial ownership of that company. I've been a computer programmer for my entire working life, and some of my savings have been invested in the stock in various companies, directly and via retirement savings plans. I own a part of those companies, and it's my right to have a say in the operation of those companies.
I oppose the SEC's proposal to make it harder for shareholders to submit proposals at the annual meetings of the companies in which they share ownership. Shareholder proposals encourage companies to act more responsibly, towards their employees, towards their customers, towards the neighborhoods in which they operate.
Many corporations have acted irresponsibly, and shareholder proposals are an important component in reminding companies that they have responsibilities to more than just their corporate officers.
