Rule Comments,
I am a federal employee who is investing for my retirement through the Thrift Savings Plan. While I look for high returns, I also care about how the companies I invest in fulfill their responsibility to society at large. This includes labor standards, executive compensation, support of human rights, and stewardship of the environment.
Shareholders have a right to speak out at annual meetings about how their companies act on key social issues. CEOs are trying to make it harder to speak out by having the SEC change the rules. The trend has been for CEOs to exercise power without challenge, empowered by a White House administration grounded in business rather than in government.
Please do not change SEC rules so that it would be harder to question the behavior of a corporation on issues we care about.
