October 31, 2022 Many Americans have cash accounts at their brokerages. Theoretically my brokerage isn't allowed to loan out the shares I hold in a cash account, but how can I be sure without adequate transparency in the system. I believe we need daily reporting of total shares held in custody, percentage held in margin accounts, and percentage out on loan. This data also needs to immediately be made public. This levels the playing field by removing pay to play fees and improves price discovery by giving all market participants access to the same information.
