I’m writing because my family and I were affected by the economic collapse of 2008, and we don’t want it to happen again.
I am an educator in a public school in a state (Colorado) that already ranked near the very bottom of the barrel in spending per pupil before the economy crashed. Because of this crisis, many first and second-year teachers have been let go. My small elementary school lost four full-time positions, and my own position as the English Language Acquisition teacher was reduced to part-time.
We educators know that short-term gains are not that important; what matters for our students is their long-term education. Wall street should remember this too! If it turns out that the profits in a given year were built on shoddy practices that become clear in the out-years, those bonus payments should be forfeited.
Thank you for considering my comment,
