I’m writing because my family and I were affected by the economic collapse of 2008, and we don’t want it to happen again but we are 100% sure it will without accountability and fundamental changes in oversight.
My significant other lost his entire savings, and may never be able to retire. My income dropped by half just as I was reaching my later 30s and just at the point where I could financially afford to have a baby, making it likely that I will not be able to have one since unfortunately biologically time may have run out for me during this preventable recession.
Goldman Sachs and others must be prosecuted for knowingly lying about the risk ratings of securities they sold at well above their actual value. Until and unless bankers who have broken the law are in jail, nobody on Wall Street will believe they need to be accountable for their actions. The result will be an inevitable second collapse, worse than the first because we can't afford to bail it out this time.
Thank you for taking immediate, bold action. Nothing less than the future of our country is at stake.
