I am writing today as a young climate activist to support the rule to enhance climate-related disclosures. The planet is in a climate emergency, and the latest IPCC report clearly demonstrates that our window to act to avoid catastrophic climate change is rapidly narrowing. Millions of species of animals are threatened, and we could see up to a billion climate migrants by the end of the century. Humans have already heated the planet more than one degree Celcius in the past couple of centuries, and we are on track to blow past 1.5 degrees of heating that the Paris Climate Agreement set out as a target to keep our planet habitable for life. The science couldn't be more clear: the burning of fossil fuels must come to an end, and rapidly. Many companies have pledged to go net-zero with their emissions, but if they are not held accountable to disclose their emissions and the associated climate risks, they will continue to emit greenhouse gases at dangerously high levels to effectively de
stroy any chances for future generations to have a livable planet. Mandating the measurement and disclosure of climate risk is a necessary step in addressing the climate crisis that is an existential threat to all life on Earth. Please approve and implement these rules as soon as possible.
