I agree that continuing education is an important part of offering up to date financial advice. As a Certified Financial Planner Professional, I am required to complete 15 hours of board approved continuing education each year, including 2 hours of ethics training each year. As a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Planners, I am required to complete 30 hours of continuing education in specific approved subject areas each year, including a minimum of 5 hours in investments. As and Enrolled Agent, I must complete 16 tax specific continuing education hours. These three groups accept as concurrent the continuing education of the others. in the required subject areas. I would hope that the SEC, in requiring continuing education units from Registered Investment Advisors, would accept as concurrent the continuing education units that are accepted by the CFP(R) Board of Standards.
